first blogiversary!

YAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BLOG! (Yes, I categorized this blog under "holidays" as well because a blogiversary is sort of a holiday, right?) Granted, I haven't updated daily, but it's still a major success in my books. I was the type of person to make a blog (or keep a diary) and then forget about it (actually, I was just too lazy to sit down and make a post), but I wanted to have something I could reflect back on. And having readers is just the fun part. I love reading my previous posts about where I ate and who I hung out with and what I wore (especially since most of my clothes are in huge heaps in my room, I tend to forget about certain items I own).

And MacBar is this delicious macaroni and cheese place that oh my goodness I can't even describe. It's cheesy and delicious and did I mention cheese? I love cheese. Oh and those are my friends. We're in a club together. We're also on e-board. This means we run the club and we are obviously important. And we take our club serious. Look at that dedication.

I feel like I've changed a year to date. I've started college, went to my first blogger meetup, celebrated my 18th birthday, transitioned into 2011, went to Boston, documented the snowmaggedon New York experienced, launched my own magazine (which is still in the works), watched the Gay Pride parade (which also coincided with NY passing the gay marriage bill YAY!), and basically documented my life for the past year.

I'm extremely glad to have started this blog. It has helped me on an introspective journey that goes beyond the clothes in my closet and the food that I consume. It has allowed me to appreciate the people around me and the creativity that this blog inspires me to continue to seek out. And it will be a priceless virtual memory book that I'll, hopefully, be able to share with my children and my children's children and an endless generation of my spawn. Or something less gruesomely worded. Yes. But, I hope this blog will have many many many more birthdays.

And I'd like to say "Hello" and "Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!" to all the visitors that this blog has, and will continue to have. I don't care about my reader count or comments or whatever, but just knowing that people actually take time out of their day to read my posts or look at my pictures or scroll through my ramblings is good enough for me. So, thank you a billion times over and I hope to make many more friends! I'm not a creep. Promise.

until next time!

looting at LF.

viscose long scoop back dress - american apparel // black belt - vintage
black flats - seychelles // watch -  casio // stretch floral lace bra - american apparel

My life revolves around work and food, if you couldn't tell. This dress is one of my favorites, except it's really long so I have to belt it. The back cutout is my favorite part.

And NY Burger Co. is pretty delicious, albeit expensive.  But I got the chicken caprese burger and fries. $4 extra for fries?! OUTRAGE. But. It. Was. So. Good. I devoured it immediately and wanted second helpings. I guess I'll only go back when I really want to treat myself. For the other days, I've got McDonalds! And it sucks that Manhattan doesn't have a dollar menu! WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE?

But yesterday, I picked up some items from LF's seasonal sale! Technically I didn't loot because that would be stealing. I have the receipt and everything! It was mass pandemonium. There were so many people, the clothes and shoes were strewn everywhere, but I was happy to have landed my hands on a few select items -- like a heavy oversized military jacket for the fall/winter (because I hate heavy coats), this gorgeous printed dress with cutouts on the side, and these Jeffrey Campbell wedges I'm going to wear all the time in the fall and winter. I'm so happy (and broke).

rings and things.

 1. ring from American Eagle Outfitters // 2. ring from Forever 21 // 3. watch from Casio.
black belt - vintage // brown moccasins - Minnetonka

I'm usually not one to wear jewelry. I've highlighted my jewelry in a post almost one year ago, and I'd still like to think I feel the same way. Although the recently acquired jewelry might not be family heirlooms, they still serve a rather sentimental meaning to me.

The first knot ring is just to remind me of all of my friendships and how I hope that they'll always be forever -- sort of like a forever knot ring except not romantically linked! The koi fish ring is just a little symbol of my culture. Koi fish are regarded as lucky by the Chinese, and I've had my fair share of koi fish as pets. And the watch? Well...to be honest, this one is just for more of a practical reason. I used to wear watches all the time when I was a kid (you know, before thirteen year olds had iPhones and everything), and I just like the habit of being able to check my wrist instead of searching through my bottomless back for my cellphone (Sony Ericsson W200i. Circa 2007. Yep. I still have it. No, I don't have internet or apps or anything like that.).

I love shorts but they always give me this awkward creasing on my crotch area. Oh yeah, I'm wearing a crop top. SCANDALOUS! But I love that truffle color. It's my favorite. I think I'm going to wear it all fall. And winter. Unless I'm freezing and I end up in my sweats from high school. Yep...I think that's going to work out well.

A few days ago, I took a family friend of mine around New York City to show her around and met up with my friend Amrita of Suitcases and Silk. Because of the rain, we didn't get to do much besides walk around SoHo, get a little shopping done, and have a meal at one of my mom and I's favorite restaurant -- Spring Street Natural Restaurant.

It's this quaint little place that's always packed (unless you get lucky on an empty day, like we did). The food is all organic and healthy and delicious and the prices are extremely decent for dining in SoHo. For lunch we each paid less than $15! Of course, I had to be special and have some natural ginger ale and tack on a couple more dollars, but it was delicious and good so I didn't really mind! This place is great for vegetarians and even meat-lovers like me. Seriously. So. Delicious. I'm salivating right now. Plus, who doesn't love a place that has a bread basket (which I forgot to take a picture of, as always, because I'm too busy stuffing my face).

And it's still weird to see myself without braces even though it's been over a month. So this is a vainglorious picture of me. My smile is still weird. I've been practicing though. This was taken when my dad was filling the car with gas at the gas station. He tried to intervene and get in the picture but I said no because he's not pretty enough to be on the internet. Just kidding! Okay. Bye!

until next time!

summer in the hamptons.

crochet lace jumper - american apparel // brown belt - levi's
denim shorts - american apparel // hat - american apparel

I miss having time to actually compose an outfit post with thought into it, rather than just standing there and snapping some quick shots! Unfortunately, time doesn't allow me to do so, so I'll have to settle for days when I wake up three hours early before work. And how scandalous! It's a jumper that's open knit. Fortunately, it isn't that sheer where you can see my boobs, so I ended up just wearing a nude bra underneath. Simple solutions brought to you by Julia! Except it doesn't match my skin tone anymore because of all the days I've spent at the beach. I'm about six shades darker now. It's pretty awesome.

Last weekend (or so, I forgot), I took a quiet trip to the Hamptons (which is only a short LIRR trip away -- for those who aren't familiar with the acronym, LIRR stands for Long Island Rail Road) with my friend where we walked around town, did some shopping, biked, and mostly just went to the beach. I love that gelato. I got pear and banana. Pear was delicious. Banana, as well, but it was a little too fragrant for my liking. I have to try hazelnut next time. There's a Sant Ambroeus conveniently located in Manhattan, too, but I hate waiting on lines. After getting gelato, we just walked around the little village and explored the artwork there. Unfortunately, I was having too much fun to actually document much of my little getaway, but I love well-deserved weekend excursions.

until next time!

fairweather friend.

illustrated chiffon oversized button up in Beaver Lake - American Apparel // belt - Levis
brown cutout flats - H&M // light wash jean shorts - Amercican Apparel

This chiffon shirt is surprisingly lightweight. I wear it in 90 degree weather and I feel cool as ice. I think it has to do with the fact that I only wore a swimsuit top under it. Whatever suffices in this hot weather, right? I've been to the beach countless of times these past two weeks. Honestly! I'm about five shades darker and I couldn't be happier. I love being tan. I just hate the heat! I need to tan as much as I can, just due to the fact that it usually fades by the time winter comes around. I don't need to blend in with the snow!

The last two pictures were the only ones I managed to snap from Jones beach. My friend and I swan in the bay despite the "SWIMMING PROHIBITED" sign. There were so many minnows there! We just sat still in the shallow waters and let the fish nibble at our dead skin and skirt around us. It was super ticklish. And they're sort of cute. Afterwards, we headed towards the actual beach area. And on this particular day, we basically got battered by the waves. We would just stand still and get knocked down onto the sand. We got sand burned too. It was pretty brutal, but at least I got my skin exfoliated -- naturally, haha!

I can't believe school is just around the corner. In the midst of having so much fun (and working), I forgot to fill out my FAFSA! So if you're going to college in US, don't forget to fill it out, like I did! And if you haven't, do it as soon as possible. I need to write these things down...I have terrible memory!

until next time!

on the run.

printed knee-length dress - Blue Plate // pumps - Urban Outfitters

 1. My favorite summer dress. If I could, I would wear it every day and everywhere. It's the perfect length and the perfect silhouette and the perfect fabric so I don't melt into oblivion. Seriously. It's so hot in NYC. The subways are terrifying. I feel like I'm suffocating. It kind of makes me feel like a picnic blanket. I wore this last year in October in the fall. I can't wait for fall. I love fall. SO. MUCH. By the way, I am so tan right now. SO. TAN.

2. My old SkullCandy earphones that I found collecting dust in the corner of my room. I love them. I don't care if it makes my head look huge and that it makes my ears sweat in this heat. I like to blast music until I'm deaf.

3. Strawberry & mint mojitos. Yesyesyesyesyes. So delicious.

4. & 5. Caught up with my BFF Amrita (who finally started her own blog: Suitcases & Silk which I implore you to check out). We had a delicious Italian dinner at our now-favorite pasta place that serves salad and bread with awesome butter. I love butter. And cheese. and carbs. Mmmm. I'm salivating right now. You don't even know.

6. A subway terminal I was standing in. Guess what's at the bottom left hand corner of that door? A rat. Just kidding. Not only one rat. A whole family of rats. Usually I'm not so skeeved out by them because they're at the bottom of the tracks, but these were right on the platform with me and they were running towards me. I moved away immediately. They're HUGE. The size of a cat, I kid you not.

until next time!
