Random Doodles

I know it's not good to just let me mind wander off in class, but I often find myself doing so and coming up with the weirdest little scribbles and doodles!

Inspired by Lady Gaga's Bad Romance music video! Haha. This was last year, I think sometime in November. I might be mistaken. I never properly date my work! Done with a regular Staples blue pen.

Weep, Little Lion Man

Sorry my hair looks like a rat's nest! It's actually pretty warm today, and I wanted to wear shorts without looking like I was a crazy person - especially in these daisy dukes! Although these tights have tears and rips in them, I can't seem to allow myself to part with them.

This is one of my favoritefavoritefavorite sweaters ever in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD. I know it looks like it was patched together by a kindergartner, but I think that's what makes it special. My favorite detailing definitely has to be the 'heart on the sleeve'.

I totally just spent late last night and early this morning cleaning out my closet and setting aside clothes I don't fit/wear/want anymore. I'll be donating it to my local donation box around the corner. But doing this made me realize how many articles of clothing that I have and never utilize! I decided to set aside the clothes I always wear and put that at the bottom of my drawers and the ones that hadn't been worn that many times at the top. Hopefully I won't skip right past those and go towards my 'safety' items.

I spent the morning with a ham, egg, and cheese bialy and watching The Blood Diamond. I actually cried, but that isn't too surprising. I cry a lot at the slightest sad moment in a movie! And it's lunch time, so it's time for me to make something for myself, since everyone at my house decided to go out for the day. I have no idea what to make. I might just end up with a T.V dinner, haha. Not exactly the healthiest!

I hope everyone's having a great and wonderful weekend. And for those in the U.S, a long weekend since Monday's Columbus day, yay!

There's A World Out There We Should See

It's been so nice lately! The rain cleared up, so it's been sunny, windy, and nice and cool. This is my absolute favorite season. I love cable knits - especially sweaters. Even though it's a solid plain color, the knit detailing makes it so much more interesting. And these are my absolute favorite flats, but they're horrible to walk in - especially in tights. They kept slipping off and I almost lost it in the middle of the street, as I was crossing in front of traffic. I've had them for about three years now, and they're so worn in that they're a bit big on me now. :( Too bad! They're so comfy. And they're by Arturo Chiang! One of my favorite footwear designers.

Character Style: Matilda Wormwood

From Roald Dahl's Matilda! Everyone's favorite genius with the ability to levitate things like empty glasses from a dysfunctional family. I always envisioned her as a headstrong girl and incredibly independent as a young adult. She seems a bit demure, as well, but only because she doesn't recognize her own genius. 

She'd be modest in her clothing - muted pastels, peter pan collars, knee socks, loafers, Mary Janes, and canvas knapsacks so she could carry all of her books. Of course, where would we be without a cute pair of reading glasses? All of these outfits are versatile enough for her to go from school to the library and then off to a nice little tea party with someone (or, in this case if we're speaking about transitioning her from the novel world into the real world, a coffee shop for a poetry reading). 

Matilda would be that girl in high school/college that everyone knows of and is well liked, but very reserved. That isn't to say that she's hard to get along with. She's a very compassionate and outgoing character, but with someone of her brilliance, she's certain to be a girl of few and careful words. She prefers to spend time with her nose buried in her books, sitting on a nice comfy couch at a local cafe or book store.

Coeur de Pirate

So I wore this outfit on Monday! Unfortunately, it started drizzling a little bit, so the flats were definitely not a good idea! My poor feet were freezing. I lovelovelove these pants and this jacket. They're my two of my favorite items in my closet. If I could only pack one suitcase full of clothes to wear for the rest of my life, these pants and that green jacket would definitely be in there!

Character Style: Holden Caulfield

I know it's quite cliche, but Holden Caulfield is one of my favorite literary characters. He's also one of the most influential characters on my fall and winter wardrobe. When I think of What Would Holden Wear If He Was A Girl? I couldn't help but be attracted to cable knits, slacks, plaid, beige, navy, and everything that has the essence of a preparatory school uniform.

He has that sort of whole 'poor little rich kid' thing going on. Where he can't help but be rather well dressed. Here, in the first outfit, I envisioned sheer t-shirt with a lace tank top on top, paper bag slacks, and a navy cable knit cardigan, completed with a pair of oxfords. This outfit sort of reminds me of the scene where Holden is having drinks at the Lavender Room with those three girls that he couldn't stand.

The second outfit, for much colder weather, consists of a plaid dress (to make up for the lack of a houndstooth print), a black cape, sheer printed hosiery, black boots, and a signature deerstalker. The scene that reminded me of this outfit is when he decides to take his little sister, Phoebe, to the Central Park Zoo.

For the third outfit, perhaps a modified school uniform,  reminds me of the night that Holden is sitting in his dorm room and Stradlater announces that he has a date with Jane Gallagher. A simple beige skirt, red cable knit sweater, a green jacket, knee-highs, and brown riding boots.

Hopefully I'll be able to put together a few outfits like this for this fall! I'm quite excited, especially since the temperatures are dropping! I even decided to scour the internet for a few more images that reminded me of what a female Holden Caulfield would wear.

Tie Your Mother Down

I wore this outfit on Mother's Day  earlier this year to sort of pay homage to her. For lack of better words, I copy and pasted what I had written:

i decided on this dress because it's my mother's and has the cutest tie waist in the front. i'm her only daughter and the heirloom that i get to inherit when she no longer wants them or when she's no longer here (knock on wood) are her clothes - her prize and possession. she's an amazingly fashionable woman and she prides herself in wearing haute couture that only few people can pull off (like emilio pucci and albert ferretti, her favorites). although we do not get along some times, she is still my mother and i love her. she's amazingly humorous when she wants to be, and intellectual, giving me wisdom that is absolutely priceless.

everyone says that though look more like my father, i am my mother's child. we both ran track, are athletic, and that i carry the same traits as her - observant, wise, filial. i feel that it's not appropriate for me to own up to this traits yet - i am not mature enough to be the woman that my mother has and all the obstacles she has had to endure through life.

I know everyone's curious about what other bloggers use to document their lives and who shoots their photos. I know I am! So, I decided to dedicate a post entirely to my cameras.

As my dad cleaned out the closets today to prepare for winter, he found his old camera bag. Currently, I use a Nikon D40 with the standard 18-55mm lenses. He had told me that he was a camera fanatic in his youth a while back before, but I just brushed it off. As he gave me the camera bag, and I opened it, I felt as if it was Christmas morning. An early Christmas present!

We had already found a Kodax Instamatic 300 that belonged to my grandfather. Unfortunately, the film is incredibly hard to find and the camera is a bit faulty after all these years, meaning the shutter button and flash gets stuck. I just keep it for decorative uses.

Inside contained a Nikon FE2 along with 3 sets of lenses - standard, wide angle, and telescopic, along with some filters. I was ecstatic. And if you're a Nikon user, you'd probably understand why I was so happy. The reason is that many of the older Nikkor lenses can still fit onto today's DSLR bodies. Unfortunately, as I began trying to shoot with the older lenses, I realized that I was completely inept at shooting manual. I guess I'll have to learn and work with it, especially since the manual flash that came in the camera bag is probably out of battery and I don't feel like finding the necessary parts.

Does anyone have any tips/advice for shooting with manual lenses? The manuals confuse me quite a bit, haha.

With my daily outfit shots, I use a Davis & Sanford TRAVLRV Traveler Tripod and the ML-L3 remote control so I don't have to run back and forth to my camera to press the timer again and again. Plus, I certainly don't have scenic views as everyone else. My parents would probably think I was crazy if I ran outside with my tripod and camera in hand! Plus, I feel sort of embarrassed if someone was passing by and I was posing ridiculously, haha. In addition, sometimes I use a smaller tripod that, again, belongs to my father. I'm not too sure what brand it is, though.

He's A Good Time Cowboy Casanova

 

You don't know how ecstatic I was when I found these ankle cowboy boots on Piperlime. Even though they were a tad expensive, they're from Nine West and they're ankle boots! Unfortunately, due to my athletic legs (aka: large calves and thighs), I have trouble fitting into knee-high boots. So, to compromise, I end up scouring for that perfect ankle boot that won't cut me off and make me look like a Smurf!

Luckily, I read the reviews on the site, telling me to size half a size down. I'm usually a size 8, but these babies are a size 7.5 and fit perfectly. They're even roomy enough so I can wear my favorite fuzzy socks with them! The bad part is that they're suede and I was sort of hoping to wear these out in the rain. I hope everyone has a great and wonderful weekend, even though Saturday is almost over! I know I'm scrambling to get back under my covers and catch up on some much needed shut eye even though I still have homework to do. The woes of being a college student! 

 Does anyone have any hints? Should I get a suede protection spray or should I not even attempt to wear them in the rain?
